The Premise of Exiled Evil
According to various religious and esoteric traditions, evil did not originate on Earth but rather originated in a heavenly realm where a cosmic conflict occurred. The Biblical account in Revelation 12:7-9 describes how "the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." Similarly, the Book of Enoch details how fallen angels known as "Watchers" descended to Earth and corrupted humanity (1 Enoch 6-16).
Gnostic texts from the Nag Hammadi library describe these beings as "Archons" who maintain humanity's imprisonment in the material realm (Jonas, 1958). These entities are characterized by their fundamental nature as the absence of love—beings who have severed their connection to the divine source of all creation. As Augustine of Hippo articulated, evil is not a created thing but rather a privatio boni—the privation of good (Augustine, 398).
The Quintessential Deceivers
These exiled entities are described across traditions as master deceivers. In Islamic tradition, Iblis is described as one who "leads people astray by false hopes" (Quran 4:120). The Gospel of Judas portrays these beings as those who "rule over the world" and "claim that they are gods" while being ignorant of the true divine realm (National Geographic, 2006).
Modern esoteric interpretations suggest these beings maintain control through what G.I. Gurdjieff called "the terror of the situation"—the creation of artificial crises and suffering to harvest negative emotional energy (Gurdjieff, 1949). David Icke and others propose that these entities manipulate humanity through what he calls "the moon matrix" and other forms of frequency control (Icke, 2012).
